個人的なお薦め作品がいくつも落ちているのは毎年のことなのですが、ヒューゴー賞と意識的に変えようとする姿勢はやはり衰えているようです。残念ながらハイカソルで翻訳された作品など日本勢は今年は見送られました。

Bordersと本屋さん考

Borders が経営破たんというニュースを聞いてちょっとショック。
日本の大手書店チェーンにとっても人ごとではないだろう。
店舗ありの書店というものは、もうすでに絶滅危惧種なのかもしれない。

と言いながら多少うしろめたい気分になるのは、私自身、本を買うのは圧倒的にネットが多いからだ。だいたい外出することが少ないから、本屋さんに行く回数が少ない。本屋さんに行っても、ゆっくり書棚を眺めて……なんて余裕のあるときはめったにないし。

だからひょっこり時間があいて、本屋さんでだらだら本選びをするときはたまらなく幸せ。本屋さんで本を探して買うことって、私の生活のなかでは「ぜいたく」のひとつなのかも。だってほんとうは、ネットで本を買うより、本屋さんで買うほうがずっと楽しい。本屋さんには、「本」を買いに行くんじゃなくて、「本に囲まれて本を選ぶレジャー」を買いにいくのね。
やっぱりなくなったら困る。週末は本屋さんにGO!だ。

余談だけど、都心から電車で1時間の郊外のニュータウンにある私の育った町では
数年前に、さいごの一軒だった本屋さんが閉店して、無本屋地帯になってしまった。
駅前にTSUTAYAはあるけど、私のなかでは本屋には分類されない。
TSUTAYAはレンタルビデオ(いまはDVDかブルーレイだけど)屋!
